World Premiere of a New Work by Wally Gunn!

Our debut performance, August 12th on the Memorial Union Terrace, will highlight a new piece for percussion duo, commissioned as part of the New Works for Percussion Project. The piece, Ore, which features the spoken voice and a gradually developing canonic texture, is a collaboration between Wally Gunn and Maria Zajkowski

Zajkowski's poem, also titled Ore, is seemingly a collection of almost-words. Made up of familiar morphemes, Zajkowski renders a fictional vocabulary all her own, with words like "colderer", "fortifree", and "chartic". Gunn's setting of the text is rhythmically simple, but still demanding of the performer's, asking the players speak text naturally while playing ever-changing rhythmic patterns.

We are honored that this will be the World Premiere (or "permier" to quote one of Zajkowski's made-up words) of Wally Gunn's Ore.

See you at 5pm, on the Memorial Union Terrace. More details in the Facebook event, here.
